Sundance 2015: Jason Segel and Peter Travers Talk End of the Tour

In this installment of Off the Cuff with Peter Travers from the Sundance Film Festival, Rolling Stones movie critic catches up with actor Jason Segel, who makes his first visit to the Utah fest since 1997, when a 17-year-old Segel was promoting SLC Punk. I remember [Sundance] being a little more quaint than this. Its turned into a real kerfuffle, Segel says. Travers adds, Theres something about Sundance. Its an audience like no other. Theyll wait in the snow for two hours to see a movie theyve never heard of because, these movies, some of them dont have distribution yet.

While many of the films screening at Sundance hope to leave Park City, Utah with a distribution deal, Segels work at the festival is already done as The End of the Tour, the David Foster Wallace filmstarring Segel as the Infinite Jest author, has already secured a distributor. Travers and the actor discuss the film, which has earned rave reviews out of Sundance.

Specifically, what [The End of the Tour] is about is the last four days of the Infinite Jest book tour. David Lipsky, for Rolling Stone, decided he wanted to do a profile on this man, David Foster Wallace, who had just written a book, Infinite Jest, that was called the book of a generation,' Segel says. The interviews ended up not getting published, but [Lipsky] published the book after Wallace passed away.

Segel also shares how he and Jesse Eisenberg, who portrays Lipsky in the film, formed the intimate bond that translates on the screen, as well as Segels newfound love of hiking.
