The N.W.Abiopic Straight Outta Comptondoesnt hit theaters until Friday, but fans can check out an exclusive scene from the project to hold them over. The above clip finds gangstarap legends Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins) and Eazy-E (Jason Mitchell) fantasizing about starting their own record label after Dre gets bailed out of jail.
It aint no happy endings in that game, man, Dre tells Eazy, encouraging him to pursue his rap talents. If you can sling dope, you can sling records, man its easy. . . You got a mind for that, E. Reality raps, man thats what Im talking about! E is intrigued, but cautious about the idea, calling it kind of far-fetched. But a mischievous smile crosses his face as he tells Dre his ideal label name: Ruthless.
Straight Outta Compton tells the full story of N.W.As rise and fall from the pioneering groups heyday of anthems like Fuck tha Police to Eazy-Es death from AIDS in 1995. At first, Dr. Dre was ambivalent toward the biopic until Ice Cube took control by recruiting Friday director F. Gary Gray to helm the project.
I wanted to show why we made N.W.A, what made us, what was happening in our lives at the time that made us make music like that, Cube told Rolling Stone. And then I wanted to show what influence N.W.A had on the neighborhood. It forged us, and then we changed the hood.
The rapper who co-produced Compton with Dre, Eazy-Es widow Tomica Woods-Wright and others says the film paints an accurate portrait of N.W.As studio process. Youll tease a motherfucker if he aint getting it right, he says with a laugh. You can get real personal. All that comes out in the movie, and its great that we were able to produce a movie at that level.
