American Hustle, 12 Years a Slave Dominate Oscar Nominations

American Hustle and Gravity are the two most nominated films for this years Academy Awards, each film receiving 10 nominations, while 12 Years a Slave received nine; all three films are up for Best Picture. Actor Chris Hemsworth and the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced 86th Oscar nominations today in Los Angeles. Other heavily nominated films include Dallas Buyers Club, Captain Phillips and The Wolf of Wall Street.

The Best Song category features some unique musicians. In December, the Academy listed a whopping 75 potential songs that could be whittled down to at least five nominations. Among them were tracks by Dave Grohls Sound City troupe, Jay Z and Oscar sabotage target Lana Del Rey. Today, in addition to songs from Alone Yet Not Alone and Frozen, the nominations contained songs from Pharrell Williams (for Happy, the Despicable Me 2 track, for which he made a 24-hour video), Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O (for The Moon Song in Her) and U2 (for the Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom song Ordinary Love.Arcade Fires Will Butler and Owen Pallett also earned an Oscar nomination for their score for Her.

The winners will be revealed Sunday, March 2nd. ABC will broadcast the ceremony live, beginning at 7 p.m. EST.
