Ryan Reynolds will return for a Deadpoolsequel, 20th Century Fox confirmed during CinemaCon 2016, The Wrapreports.
Fox co-CEO Stacey Snider also confirmed that director Tim Miller would return along with the rest of the creative team, including writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Deadpoolhas grossed over$750 million worldwide and garnered heaps of praise from critics, making a sequel inevitable. Though even before the accolades and big box office numbers, the hyper-meta anti-hero himself promised a follow-up in a scene tacked on after the Deadpoolcredits.
In that same clip, Deadpool also joked that the sequelwould feature Marvel mutant Cable, something Reese and Wernick all but confirmedduring a recent interview with Hitfix.
Theres a lot of fun in that hes very serious and he does take on more serious weighty issues than Deadpools used to taking on, so I think theres a juxtaposition there that can be fun, Reese said. We had a lot of fun with Colossus in the first movie, just by virtue of him being a foil to Deadpool, being a goody two-shoes and a straight shooter and Deadpool being irreverent. And I think Cable offers us the opportunity to provide another really cool, different foil for Deadpool.
Along with Deadpool 2, Reynolds will star in another upcoming Reese and Wernick-penned movie, Life. The sci-fi thriller co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and will be directed by Daniel Espinosa.
