To the chagrin of his detractors, Adam Sandler has become a true icon of contemporary American cinema, the comedian a multiplex fixture on par with Tom Cruise, bags of popcorn and infinitely larger bags of popcorn for just 50 cents more. So, even ifSandler may not be the most critically lauded superstar in Hollywood, it was still a game-changer when he announced that four of his upcoming films would be exclusively released on Netflix (Netflix rhymes with wet chicks,'he explained). Now, a little over a year later, the streaming service has unveiled the trailer for the first of those titles, a Western action-comedy called Ridiculous 6.
Light on laughs, but surprisingly full of explosions, our first look at the latest from Blended director Frank Coraci introduces a gravel-voiced Sandler as Tommy White Knife Stockburn, the baddest outlaw in the lawless frontier. After rounding up a new gang for his latest train heist, Stockburn discovers a shocking coincidence: He and his five new friends all share the same dad, and their mutual pops could really use their help.

By the looks of things, Sandler has called in a whole mess of favors to ensure that his first streaming comedy doesnt feel second-rate. The star-studded trailer includes Harvey Keitel, John Turturro, Rob Schneider, Terry Crews, Taylor Lautner, Will Forte, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Danny Trejo and Nick Nolte, and there are likely even more celebrities peppered throughout the film itself (A handy tip for anyone afraid of confusing Ridiculous 6 with Quentin Tarantinos The Hateful Eight: Ridiculous 6 is the one where Vanilla Ice plays Mark Twain.)
On the other hand, a few people are conspicuously absent from the cast: In April, roughly a dozen Native American extras walked off the set after accusing Sandlers script of perpetuating offensive stereotypes. Did their protest move Sandler to reconsider the material, or will dialogue like How about I peepee in your teepeemake it into the final cut? Find out when Netflix unleashes Ridiculous 6 on December 11th.
