All the Young Dudes: Lebowski Fest to Return to New York

The two-day celebration of bathrobes and imported rugs known as Lebowski Fest will return to New York City on August 22nd and 23rd. The first night will take place at a frequent setting in the cult 1998 hit The Big Lebowski the bowling alley where organizers will hold bowling, costume and trivia contests and achievers (the fests name for the fans) can bowl and rent shoes to their hearts content. The second night will take place at a movie theater and will feature a concert by Cover Me Badd, a punk group doing Lebowski-themed cover songs, and a screening of the movie itself. Full details are on the Lebowski Fest website.

Since its inception in Louisville in 2002, Lebowski Fest has been held 60 times in more than 30 different cities in three different countries. Jeff Bridges has appeared at two of the fests (though he is not confirmed to appear at this one), and the festival has served as the site of two weddings. It has also been the subject of two movies of its own, Split and The Achievers.

This past April, Bridges made an appearance at the Los Angeles event, where he performed with his band the Abiders. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he called the event incredible and said that he enjoyed seeing the movie for the first time in a long time there. I sat and watched it with the rest of the audience, he said. And it was really a remarkable experience to be in the room with people who admire that movie so much, and you can just feel the love vibes going on. It was really terrific.
