Deadpool 2 Sets 2018 Release Date

Deadpool 2, the sequel to the 2016 blockbuster starring Ryan Reynolds as the foul-mouthed Marvel antihero, has announced its release date: June 1st, 2018.

Deadpool was a surprise hit for the studio: After Reynolds spent years lobbying to get a standalone Deadpool movie made, the film about the Merc with the Mouth ended up becoming the highest grossing rated-R film of all time.

Recently, Deadpool 2 made a pair of major cast additions, recruiting Zazie Beetz to play Domino and Josh Brolin to appear as fan favorite Cable; this is Brolins second major role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he also portrays Thanos in the Avengers saga. John Wick director David Leitch will helm the sequel.

Reynolds previously teased the impending return of Deadpool with a surprise short that screened before Logan, another R-rated Marvel flick that was a box office hit, in March.

In addition to plotting Deadpool 2s arrival, 20th Century Fox also announced plans to further expand Marvels big screen presence next year with a pair of new X-Men films: New Mutants, an X-Men spin-off, arrives April 13th, 2018, while X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the follow-up to 2016s X-Men: Apocalypse that will center on Sophie Turners Jean Grey, hits theaters November 2nd of next year.

Earlier in the day, the studio also mapped out the release dates for the long-delayed Avatar sequels, as well as stationed Steven Spielbergs Pentagon Papers film The Post at December 22nd, 2017, setting it up for an awards season run.
