American Horror Story Leads Emmy Nominees With 17

American Horror Story: Asylum leads the 2013 Emmys field with 17 nominations, and Game of Thrones,30 Rock and the Netflix original series House of Cardsalso had strong showings when the nominations were announced this morning.

The second season of FXsAmerican Horror Story is up forOutstanding Miniseries or Movie, while star Jessica Lange is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie.James Cromwell and Zachary Quinto are both nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie, and Sarah Paulson is up forOutstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie

Game of Throneswill face off against Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Homeland, House of Cards and Mad Men for Outstanding Drama Series. The HBO fantasy series didnt land any Lead Actor or Actress nominees, but Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke were nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series, respectively.

NBCs30 Rock, which wrapped up after seven seasons this past January, was the most nominated sitcom with 13 nods. It will go against The Big Bang Theory, Girls, Louie, Modern Family and Veep for Outstanding Comedy Series. Series creator Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin are also up for Outstanding Lead Actress and Actor in a Comedy Series, respectively.

The Juiciest TV Hookups of 2012

Netflix announced its arrival on the original-content scene with big showing for House of Cards; the original political drama series picked up nine nominations. David Fincher, who directed the shows first episode, is up for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Kevin Spacey is up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Arrested Development, which made a long-awaited return on Netflix this May, was left out of Outstanding Comedy Series, though Jason Bateman picked up a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Breaking Bad, which will close out the second half of its fifth and final season starting next month, also made a strong showing. Bryan Cranston was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, both Jonathan Banks and Aaron Paul are up for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and Anna Gunn landed a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. The show is also up for Outstanding Drama Series, among other awards.
