Ed Helms sets the record straight in the new red band trailer for Vacation, in which he stars as a grown-up version ofRusty Griswold whos dragginghis family back to the site of one of his best childhood memories: Walley World. Ive never even heard of the original vacation, Rustys teenage son says. Doesnt matter, the fatherreplies. The new vacation will stand on its own.
While the clip showcases the new Vacations commitment to the originals national lampoonery, its also packed with plenty of gags straight out of the Judd Apatow playbook: Rusty frankly informing his sons theyve just seen a glory hole in a diner bathroom stall; Rusty taking his family for a dip in a hot spring that turns out to be filled with raw sewage; and Rusty waving at a pretty girl in a red sports car whos promptly hit by a truck.
Vacation also stars Christina Applegateas Rustys wife, Debbie, Leslie Mann as the grown-up version of Audrey Griswold, and Chris Hemsworth as Audreys ridiculously ripped husband, Stone Crandall. The Vacation clip also teases the return of the Griswold family matriarch and patriarch, Clark and Ellen, with both Chevy Chase and Beverly DAngelo reprising their roles from the original films.
John Francis Daley (aka Sam Weir from Freaks and Geeks) and Jonathan Goldstein wrote and directed Vacation; theyve previously collaborated on screenplays forHorrible Bossesand The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.
Vacation opens in theaters on July 29th.
