Leonard Nimoys son is boldly going where no filmmaker has gone before: A feature-length documentary based on his late father and his beloved Star Trek character Mr. Spock. Adam Nimoy has launched a Kickstarterfor his film For the Love of Spock, a project that was important to my dad and has become extremely important to me, he writes.
Last year, my father and I began working on a documentary about the life of Mr. Spock, Adam Nimoy says in a video on the films Kickstarter. We were both very much aware that the 50th anniversary of Star Trek the original series was coming up in 2016 and we wanted to create something to commemorate that event, a documentary based primarily on Mr. Spock had never been done before, and we both felt strongly about paying tribute to the half-human, half-Vulcan first officer of the Starship Enterprise.
However, following Leonard Nimoys deathin February, the flood of tributes that poured in from President Barack Obama and J.J. Abrams to his longtime co-star William Shatner and millions of fans worldwide inspired the actors son to continue making the documentary not only as an homage to Spock, but also for his father.
Adam Spock has established a $600,000 goal for his documentary, with The For the Love of Spock Kickstarter running until July 1st. Depending on the pledge, contribution rewards range from tickets to the documentarys premiere to autographed copies of Nimoys biography to associate producer credit on the film.
