The new trailer forKong: Skull Island pays homage to iconic Vietnam war movieApocalypse Now.Helicopters swoop into a jungle, except here the band of soldiers and scientists run into King Kong, who quickly destroys most of them, leaving behind only a small band of survivors.
That group includes members of the films star-studded cast including Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman. On the island, they meet a slightly addled John C. Reilly, who appears to provide the movies comic relief and ally with the native inhabitants. It turns out King Kong is just one of many oversized, potentially lethal creatures on the island. As Goodmans character puts it: Monsters exist.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts directed Kong: Skull Island, which is based on a screenplay penned by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy and Derek Connolly. The movie was filmed on three separate continents starting in Hawaii, moving to Australias Gold Coast and ending in Vietnam over six months.
Kong: Skull Island hits screens March 10, 2017.
