Sharon Jones Covers Goldfinger for The Wolf of Wall Street

Contemporary soul queen Sharon Jones and her band the Dap-Kings recently recorded a cover of Goldfinger the theme song to the James Bond flick of same name that appears in Martin Scorseses film The Wolf of Wall Street. Jones struts and stomps all over the song, matching the melodramatic force of Shirley Basseys original but with an extra saunter echoed in the Dap-Kings boozy horns.

The song is a fitting choice for The Wolf of Wall Street, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, a Wall Street broker who makes a fortune selling worthless stocks while indulging in seemingly every decadent, depraved luxury on Earth.

Look closely and you might see your own venal fantasies in how these Wall Street scumbags spend their ill-gotten gains on drugs, hookers, cars, yachts and jets, raved Rolling Stones own Peter Travers. Working with a gutsy script by The Sopranos Terence Winter, Scorsese is jabbing hard at Americas jackpot culture. The laughs are merciless and nonstop, every one with a sting in its tail.

As for Jones, the singer appears back on track after a cancer scare earlier this year forced her and the Dap-Kings to push back the release of their new album, Give the People What They Want, and cancel tour dates. After a successful surgery to remove a tumor from her bile duct, Jones and her bandmates are now set to release the album on January 14th, 2014 and will return to the stage on February 6th at the Beacon Theater in New York City, with a string of North American dates to follow.
