A new superhero emergedwhen Make-A-Wish helped 5-year-old cancer survivor Miles Scott fulfill his dream of becoming Batman in 2013. The first trailer for the upcoming documentary Batkid Begins, set for release on June 26th, offers an emotional glimpse at how the day came together (via Vulture).
For the elaborate wish, San Francisco transformed into Gotham City for the day as large crowds of people cheered on Scott through numerousstaged crimes. The documentary takes a look at Scotts lifelong love for the superhero, as his father Nick connects the boys battle with leukemia to his attraction to Batmans fight for justice in the movies and TV shows. One of his doctors told us that with this disease they become like a fighter. They fight for life, the father recalls.
The family worked on helping Miles transform intohis hero after he completed treatment. Make-A-Wish saw a huge response across the world following the initial posting of their plan on Facebook, which led to thousands of strangers making their way to San Francisco to not only watch Batkid live out his childhood dream, but to find ways to help make the day perfect. The trailer shows scenes from Miles Scotts triumphant day as he jails the Riddler and drives his Batmobile around Gotham.
Batkid Begins wont be the only big screen account of the extraordinary project. Julia Roberts will be producing and starring in an adaptation of the documentary. No word on what role she will play in the feature film or when it is set to be released.
