Fleet Foxes Robin Pecknold Covers Corduroy on Fallon

Pearl Jam Week continued yesterday on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon when Fleet Foxes singer Robin Pecknold came on to perform a cover of Corduroy at the head of a stripped-down trio consisting of two guitars and drums.

Pecknolds voice, airier than Eddie Vedders, glides over the knots of guitars and booming beat on his version of the song, which descends into a churning breakdown before Pecknold and the other guitar player, Daniel Rossen, relocate the riff. Pearl Jam recorded Corduroy for their 1994 album Vitalogy, and the song reached Number 13 on Billboards Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Pearl Jam last week released their 10th studio album, Lightning Bolt, and Fallon is helping the band celebrate by dedicating a week to their music. On Monday, Chris Cornell and the Avett Brothers covered Footsteps, while Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready is set to perform tonight with Dierks Bentley and the Roots. Pearl Jam will play Thursday and Friday.

Fleet Foxes most recent album, Helplessness Blues, came out in 2011, though the band posted a photo on Facebook this past summer that could have been a hint that theyve begun work on the follow-up.

Chris Farleys brief life and enduring legacy will be the subject of a new documentary titled I Am Chris Farley. The film will explore the comedians fast rise from Saturday Night Live to the silver screen followed by his untimely death at age 33. I Am Chris Farleywontpremiere on Spike TV untilAugust 10th, but the bittersweetfirst trailer is now available.

Success in show business does not always create the best version of people, Bob Saget warns in the film. The film features interviews with many of Farleys closest peers from his SNL era Adam Sandler, David Spade, Mike Myers, Bob Odenkirk as well as Farleys own family. I Am Chris Farley is also structured around archival footage of Farley onstage and in character, including his belovedalter ego Matt Foley, which Rolling Stone named as SNLs greatest skit ever.

You cant walk around being funny all the time. You have to be yourself sometimes, and you have to be alone sometimes, Odenkirk says.Farley also receives high praise from SNL producer Lorne Michaels, whos seen firsthand some of the greatest comedic talents of the past two generations up close. Theres a category of people that Ive worked with that are infuriatingly talented. As long as theyre in this world, I think you always recognize whatever it is when you see it, Michaels says. Youre always drawn to it.

Following its Spike premiere, the Brent Hodge and Derik Murray-directed I Am Chris Farley will head to VOD on August 11th, Mediaite reports.

Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic

Sarah Silverman is the most outrageously funny woman alive. If you want proof of that declarative sentence, see Jesus Is Magic, a Silverman symposium that is part concert film (shot last year at North Hollywoods El Portal Theater), part comedy skits with Brian Posehn and Bob Odenkirk, part song parodies and part message from Mars or whatever planet still warms to jokes about 9/11, the Holocaust, grandmas anal rape and sex education (The best time to have a baby is when youre a black teenager). Except for Silverman the twisted mans hottie the film isnt much to look at. But director Liam Lynch knows to keep the focus on the star. Like Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor, Silverman laughs at racism to undercut its power. I hope the Jews did kill Christ, she rages. Id do it again. Jesus, indeed.

Chumscrubber

An appallingly clumsy and stupid take on drugs, kidnapping and suicide in suburbia. Director Arie Posin drags down a name cast (Glenn Close, Ralph Fiennes, Allison Janney, Jamie Bell) who will need to scrub their reps clean of this tripe.

Box Office Report: Fast & Furious 6 Leads Record-Breaking Memorial Day Weekend

WINNER OF THE WEEK:Fast & Furious 6. Still going strong after 12 years and five sequels, the street-racing saga easily drove off with the box office crown this holiday weekend. According to studio estimates, it fell just $1.5 million shy of speeding past $100 million during its first three days; over the full Memorial Day holiday, its expected to earn $122.2 million. Its an especially impressive feat given how crowded the multiplex is with blockbusters right now. Credit the movie for the multi-ethnic appeal of its cast, which also helpedFast 6gross $177 million overseas, for a worldwide total so far of $275.5 million. Also credit the film for delighting longtime fans by delivering exactly what it promises. With an A grade from CinemaScore, word-of-mouth is very strong.

Then again, nearly every major release did well this weekend, for a total estimated domestic box office of $315 million throughMonday. Thats a Memorial Day weekend record, surpassing the $296 million earned during the holiday two years ago. Last weeks champ,Star Trek Into Darkness, held up well with an estimated $38.0 million over three days (good for third place) and a likely $48.0 million through Monday.Also staying strong wasIron Man 3(fifth place), with aFriday-to-Sundayestimate of $19.4 million and a full holiday estimate of $24.6 million. Thor Readies for Battle in Dark World Trailer

The November 8th release date for Thor: The Dark Worldis a long way off, but theres no time like now to get excited: the new trailer for the the sequel to the2011 Marvel superhero movieoffers a first look atChris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and everyones favorite hammer, Mjlnir. The Danish Girl

Caitlyn Jenner is a transgender icon. But nearly a century ago, Danish painter Einar Wegener became a pioneer in gender-reassignment surgery. You cant take your eyes off Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), who is flat-out fabulous as Einar. As he is as Lili Elbe, the woman who begins to emerge when Einars artist wife, Gerda (Alicia Vikander), asks him to model in stockings and heels.

Director Tom Hooper dodges the biopic clichs in Lucinda Coxons script by pushing the actors to live in the spaces between words. Vikander does wonders as a wife who stands by her woman. And Redmayne deserves every superlative, showing Lili experimenting with her new feminine wiles. Through Redmayne, we feel Lilis power in a room of admirers, and her fear of whats next. The film never gets too graphic about sex or surgery. What Hooper has crafted is a work of probing intelligence and passionate heart.
