As if theCluelesssoundtrack couldget any more classic than a house with columns dating back to1972, the alt-pop heavy compilationwill get a fresh vinyl makeover to celebrate the films 20th anniversary, Entertainment Weeklyreports.
The LP will be re-released on April 7th via Universal Music, and with a hat tip to Cher Horowitzs impeccable wardrobe a special edition pressed on yellow and black plaid vinyl will be available throughUrban Outfitters.
The Clueless soundtrack boasts an impressive roster of Nineties heavyweights, including Radiohead (an acoustic rendition of Fake Plastic Trees), Counting Crows (covering the Psychedelic Furs The Ghost in You), Velocity Girl (My Forgotten Favorite), Coolio (Rollin with the Homies) and the Beastie Boys (Mullet Head). The album also fittingly features a number of fuzzed out, female-fronted alt rock outfits, including Luscious Jackson (Here), Jill Sobule (Supermodel) and The Muffs, who famously covered Kim Wildes Kids in America.
Clueless was written and directed by Amy Heckerling and featured a young, talented cast that included Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Brittany Murphy, Stacey Dash and Donald Faison. The film offered an endearing send up of privileged Beverly Hills teenagers and would go on to spawn a TV series that ran for three seasons on ABC and UPN.
The film has remained a cultural touchstone since its 1995 release. Last year, Iggy Azalea paid tribute to the moviein the video for her smash hit, Fancy, which Heckerling found both flattering and impressively accurate. Heckerling also noted shes been working on a Broadway musicaladaptation of Clueless, adding thatKaty Perry had expressed interest in playing lead valley girl, Cher.
